Introduction
Hook : The hook is the first sentence or two of the introduction paragraph and is designed to grab the reader’s attention.
Bridge : The bridge is the sentence or two following the hook and provides necessary background information on the the topic.
Thesis Statement : The thesis statement is the last sentence of the introduction paragraph and presents the primary claim or main idea of the essay or paper.
Body
Body Paragraph #1 : The body paragraphs develop and support the discussion within the essay by presenting evidence, examples, and analysis in a logical order.
Body Paragraph #2 : Each paragraph should focus on a single idea that contributes to the overall argument or purpose of the essay.
Body Paragraph #3 : Later in the course, we’ll dive in on the different types of body paragraphs, but for now, make sure each one has a clear topic sentence, and supports the thesis statement.
Conclusion
Restatement of Thesis : restate your thesis statement to remind readers about your main idea or claim.
Summary of Findings : summarize the work you did in your body. Pay particular attention to the topics you identified in your topic sentences.
Call To Action : ask the reader to take some sort of action based on the information in your essay, such as considering a different choice if they find themselves in a similar situation.
